Author: P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
Series: House of Night
Book #: 3
Bloodlust and dark forces are at work at the house of night, and fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be friends are turning out to be enemies. And, oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this "highly addictive series", in which Zoey's mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn't have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare, Zoey finds herself in the very rare position of having three boyfriends, a situation with the potential to spell social disaster. Then vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. But as Zoey and her friends find out, things are not always what they seem...
This book started out on a bad note and just seemed to get worse as it went along, which is upsetting because I was interested in what was going to happen to Stevie Rae. The book writing was horrible and juvenile, and I honestly couldn't stand the fact that Zoey was with three guys. THREE. This is a book for teenagers, so what makes it okay to write about a student making out with a teacher and finding it exhilarating? Zoey would be a better role model if the authors had spent less time spreading her love life around to three men and instead made her focus on one person at a time. Aphrodite is a slut for trying to give her boyfriend a blowjob (alright...he technically wasn't her boyfriend at the time), and yet it's completely normal and acceptable for Zoey to be dating three different men?
It's really a shame, because I was interested in the story part of the book...but all of the unnecessary drama and horrible writing completely ruined it. Officially the end of the series for me.
