Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.
Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.
Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.
But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost--regardless of her plans or desires.
Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.
Faerie intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning 21st century faery tale

*SPOILER ALERT*
Thoughts- I thought this was a very interesting book, although I will admit that it took me a little time to get into it. It was an incredibly easy read, taking a few hours to get through. As Beeb would say, it's a nice fluffy book. Something that takes you on a nice journey, but doesn't really go any further than that. The writer's style of writing wasn't my absolute favorite, and I personally wasn't a fan of the next book in the series titled Ink Exchange.(Maybe I'll give it another chance, never give up after one read...unless it's an incredibly terrible book by your standards)
The biggest issue for me with this book, was that I personally don't believe that the Winter Queen was portrayed as a good villain. I liked the fact that Summer and Winter were representing good and evil, but the Winter Queen's character seemed over-dramatized and pretty fake at times. I would say 'unrealistic'...but we're talking about Summer fairies and Winter fairies and invisible creatures, so I don't think realism is something the author would particularly be focusing on.
I did like how the author portrayed the relationship between Aislinn and Seth, and the fact that Keenan and Donia were able to be together in the end. To explain a little, with Keenan being the Summer King, he found a few women he believed to be the Summer Queen. After developing a relationship with them he gave them a choice: Undergo the test to see if they were the true Summer Queen or decide to be one of his Summer Girls. Many chose to become Summer Girls, because taking and failing the test to determine the Summer Queen would cause you to become one of the Winter Girls. Becoming a Summer Girl, you could still be around Keenan...but becoming a Winter Girl kept you apart from him.
When Aislinn was found to be the Summer Queen, she decided she wanted to stay with the mortal man she loved (Seth) and made it possible for Donia and Keenan to be together again. Very cute ending, and it was a very nice book.
Happy Reading!
