Welcome to my blog!
This lovely little corner of the internet is the place I go to put whatever is in my head into writing, focusing on one of the three main hobbies of my life: Books, Cooking, and Essential Oils. Before I go into more detail on one of those three topics (and subsequently forget what I was doing and babble on for much longer than I care to admit), let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Suzanne, and I live in New York with my Grandparents. Like many other college graduates from my generation I am as-of-yet unable to get a job in my chosen field, and have chosen instead to focus on working towards the future and spending my spare time on my favorite hobbies. Now, on to the three hobbies: Whether its tending to a batch of boiling jam or a pot of chicken soup, cooking is something that I find both addictive and calming. My father has let me help him cook since I was 5, even trusting me with my own actual knife (which drove my mom's side of the family absolutely nuts). My mother has always been a big time baker, and she loved having me and my little sister in the kitchen with her. The two of us grew up being comfortable in the kitchen, and that's something I really am thankful to my parents for. My love of books is almost completely the fault of my grandmother, Beeba (not wanting to be called grandma, she tried to have 2-year-old me call her Barbara...Beeba came out instead and she embraced it fully). I live in the lower half of my grandparents house, which is actually where my sister and I grew up. My parents rented it from them until I was 13, and spending so much time with our grandparents made Sierra and I look at them as a second set of parents. Beeba was a librarian, and we were literally incapable of getting away from books. She would read them to us, mom would read them to us...they even teamed up and got my dad in on the act! (He strayed from the little kids books though, heading for the LoTR trilogy and the Hobbit instead). It's something that's always stuck with me, and I have accumulated quite a collection of books of various ages and genres. Working with Essential Oils has quickly become the latest of my hobbies, and my Aunt Joan happily claims responsibility for this (at least, I hope it's happily!). She had gotten into Young Living essential oils, and as I'm always experimenting with making homemade lip balm and soap she and my mother paid for me to get a premium membership kit from Young Living for my birthday. Quite possibly one of the best birthday presents I've ever gotten. YL Oils very quickly ingrained themselves in my life, to the point where I'm unconsciously using them on a daily basis. |
This blog is divided into three different sections based on the hobbies, to make things a little more organized.
1. The cooking blog is to help me keep track of what I make, how I make it, and how much of it is stored for a later date. (Canning has become a recent addition to my cooking addiction, and keeping track of what I have stored on my shelves downstairs is something I need a ton of help with.) 2. The Reading blog is to help me keep track of what I read, what I think of it, and what I have on my shelves. I do not shy away from giving my honest opinion on books, but that doesn't mean I believe my opinion to be the only one. Feel free to agree or disagree with what I believe, I only ask that you do so in a respectful manner. 3. The Essential Oil blog is my place to share my personal opinions on certain essential oils, as well as any recipes I've made up or stumbled across on pinterest. |
